The challenge

Mahatma Mandir Exhibition Centre and Memorial is one of the largest convention centres in India. It has column free convention halls for 15,000 people, a dome-shaped museum and a suspended bridge, over a 140,000 m² project. The concrete works were demanding: reinforcement was congested, and the concrete needed a high finish with as little surface repair as possible.

The DCP solution

DCP supplied Hyperplast PC711, a polycarboxylate based hyperplasticiser, to improve the flow of the concrete through congested reinforcement. It makes the mix water work more effectively and helps produce high strength, self-consolidating concrete. Formcoat S100 was supplied for the formwork. It improves finish and fair-faced concrete quality, reduces formwork cleaning and extends formwork life.

How it was applied

Hyperplast PC711 was dosed at 0.6% by weight of cement in M40 grade concrete with 400 kg of cement per m³. Formcoat S100 was applied to the formwork at about 50 m² per litre. Supply ran from January 2011 to 2013.
