The challenge
The Royal Galaxy Co-Operative Housing Society needed to repaint and protect the exterior of its residential buildings as part of planned maintenance. The structure is very close to the sea, so protection against carbonation and the ability to breathe were important. The coating had to be durable and waterproof. The consultant, Rohan Ventures, also wanted a good matt finish. The facades had cracks that needed treatment before coating.
The DCP solution
DCP proposed Repcoat FF, a 100% acrylic, anti-carbonation, breathable and waterproof decorative exterior coating. Repcoat FF also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Cracks were first sealed with Flexseal PU440, a paintable PU sealant. The client chose a tailor made colour scheme from the shade card. The consultant and contractor found Repcoat FF cost effective compared with other exterior coatings available.
DCP products used
How it was applied
- Open up the cracks to form grooves.
- Fill the grooves with Flexseal PU440 paintable PU sealant.
- Apply one coat of primer to the whole area.
- Apply 2 coats of Repcoat FF to a total dry film thickness of 150 to 200 microns.
The result
The client was satisfied with the approach of the contractor and DCP, and the consultant and contractor judged Repcoat FF the more cost effective option.
